I first came across mantra in the form of Kirtan, singing of mantras in a devotional space. After awakening into a new reality of consciousness after being unconscious for a long time, I started my search for spirituality through the one thing I had always connected with, music.
Music in the past has been a break from the difficulties in reality, a way of expression, and a way of emotional release for me, all unconsciously, but when I became connected spiritually, my connection with music changed. It became a way for me to connect to different parts of my self, opening up a journey of self exploration through different frequencies and instruments, a way for me to activate energy I didn’t know I had access to, and it was massively enlightening! But when I encountered kirtan, that’s when things levelled up for me on my spiritual journey.
This was how I connected with something conscious that I couldn’t actually see or touch. An energy that was absolutely present but no where to be seen. This energy was so strong that all my hairs on my body stood on end in adoration, my mind fell into stunned silence and my heart opened to something I can only describe as devotion. This was the first time I heard the Ganesha mantra. And it was on YouTube while i was sat on the back of the 126 bus! Aum Gam Ganapataye Namaha Ganesha – I bow to you/this mantra is for you.
This experience opened me up to a path I never thought I would walk, exploring the Hindu community stories and learning the mantras, exploring them in deep meditation and reflection.
Through chanting mantra on a 108 set of mala beads, I have finally cracked tapas (self discipline), which is something that can bring such stability into our lives, which is needed in the societies we live in today. Self discipline is a practice that takes time and effort, and it includes many cycles of ‘falling off the meditation wagon’ before it finally sticks. But when you break through the challenges, what is waiting for you is sweet like nectar. It is a sacred and safe place within that you can visit every single day that will centre and realign you to the present moment.
I have been on the journey with mantra for around 2 years now and around 1.5 years of that has been completely devotional and part of my tapas. It has helped me heal an eating disorder, guided me in deep trauma releasing experiences, held me in childbirth and awakened me to a world I never knew existed. It has brought deep gratitude to my days, and an even deeper love for life. It is a bonding practice with my husband Paul and our children, chanting together and singing in Kirtan as a family unit. It reminds me that all is not as it seems and that everything is exactly as it should be.
My perspective has broadened massively since connecting with these energies and I am so deeply and truly grateful for every moment I spend with mantra.
Now that we have experienced mantra in self development and exploration we are holding courses on how to connect in with your own personal mantra practice, teaching you what we know about the mantras, the divinity behind them and how to discipline yourself to the practice in order to better your mental and spiritual health.
This journey has been so beautiful and I am blessed to continue it with a wide range of beautiful people.
