Description
Kirtan & Cacao at Shanti Bee
Join us on Saturday, March 8th, for a one-off, soul-nourishing afternoon of kirtan and cacao at Shanti Bee in Heaton. From 3-6 PM, we’ll gather to chant and sing sacred mantras, connect through music, and enjoy the heart-opening magic of ceremonial cacao.
This special event offers a unique opportunity to experience the ancient practice of kirtan—devotional chanting in a call-and-response style—alongside the transformative power of cacao, a sacred plant medicine renowned for enhancing feelings of love, unity, and connection. Together, they create a profound space for healing, joy, and spiritual awakening.
The event will be led by Paul Makinson, cacao facilitator, and musician, his wife, Sri Matreswari, on vocals and harmonium, and Amelia Ataba on djembe. Traveling from Wakefield, this marks their first time sharing their musical magic in the North East.
What to Expect
Kirtan is a joyful and sacred practice that invites community to come together and sing devotional songs in a call-and-response format. It creates a shared experience of connection, healing, and ecstatic bliss. Combined with ceremonial cacao, this practice deepens your connection to the heart, fostering a sense of love, unity, and inner peace.
What to Bring
No experience with kirtan or cacao is necessary—just bring your voice, an open mind, and a willingness to be present. You may also want to bring a bottle of water and a cushion to sit on.
You are welcome to attend and not drink the cacao if you prefer—simply being in the energy of the ceremony is often enough to experience its benefits.
